Let's help some babies stay warm this winter!

Winter is here and it's time again to help some babies stay warm. Since I am going to spend the holidays in Romania I have decided to make a donation to an orphanage in Bucharest. What better Christmas present for some poor abandoned babies than the gift of warmth in a very cold country this time of the year! I am putting all my love into every piece I have knitted in the hope that my work will make a little difference. If you find yourself compelled to make a hat, a sweater, a pair of booties or anything else your imagination lets you create, please feel free to make a donation. There will be a baby wearing your piece of art and smile.

Covenant House

Last month I took a bunch of knitted and crochet items to Covenant House. They have a Mother/Child program created to help pregnant teenagers and young mother. Our donation was very well received. I was so happy to be able to contribute and I am hoping we can help the program more in the future. We also have a new team member, Nikki who knitted 2 baby hats (see picture). I couldn't have gotten better girls for this project. They can fight and they can knit. But mostly they were willing to spend their time for a good cause. Thank you ladies! We can show that martial arts nurtures wonderful giving people of many talents.

I have received a nice donation from Mrs. S. Her items are absolutely adorable. In a couple of weeks we will be ready to go to the Covenant House and make the donation. It will be our last donation till the fall. We are hoping to have a lot of items till then. Summer time will be knitting time!

Sisters of Life

Last week, Ria and I went to a place called SISTERS OF LIFE and donated everything we made for the last month or so. There were about 18 baby hats and several pair of booties. The Sisters were grateful and we are hoping they will send us pictures of the babies wearing the hats. Ria and I decided to start on a new batch to deliver it in February at a place called Covenant House. Many teenage mothers and their babies are given shelter there and they could use our items. We are hoping to improve our skills and dare to knit more than hats. Well, got to go back to knitting....Happy New Year!

One More Team Member

I would like to welcome Ria to this small team. I am so happy she is participating to the project. She already finished her first baby hat! It's really cute! Well done Ria! I look forward to your next project!

The Project is Expanding!

I have finished last night the seventh baby hat! The great news is that I have received interest in participating to the project. Mrs S asked me if she can crochet a baby blanket which is wonderful and I can't wait to see it. Mrs S showed me how knitting and crocheting can be fun. I learned from my grandma when I was 5-6 year old. It was mandatory for a girl to know those skills in order to make her dowry. You can imagine how much I hated it. I didn't want anyone to know I can knit. It was embarrassing. But things changed, different kind of life happened to me, one that didn't involve any dowry making. I started to look at many things in a different light. Thank you Mrs. S for showing me how to use this skill and make it a creative fun thing! I can't wait to see your baby blanket!
